Mature Primate Retinal Blood Vessels
نویسنده
چکیده
Purpose. To characterize developing retinal blood vessels with vascular markers and to relate the histochemical profile of maturing vessels to morphologic stages in retinal vascular development. Methods. Vessels were examined in frozen and paraffin-embedded retinas and in wholemounts of Macaca monkeys ranging in age from fetal day 75 (F75) to adulthood. Endothelial cells were visualized immunohistochemically using antisera to von Willebrand's factor and CD31 with lectins Ulex europaeus, Bandeiraea simplicifolia, peanut agglutinin, Ritinis communis, and wheat germ agglutinin, and by ATPase and ADPase enzymatic histochemistry. Antibodies to vascular basement membrane and matrix markers laminin, fibronectin, and collagen types I and VIII, and antisera recognizing cell cycle-specific nuclear proteins (cyclin, Ki-67, Mib-1) also were used.

Permeability of blood-ocular barriers of neonatal and adult cat to sodium fluorescein.
The permeability of the ocular blood vessels to sodium fluorescein (NaFl) was evaluated in neonatal and adult cats by fluorescence microscopy. The iris, ciliary body, and choroidal vessels were markedly permeable, whereas the mature and immature retinal vessels were impermeable. Since there is no apparent barrier to NaFl at the level of the iris vessels, the role of those vessels in aqueous for...
متن کاملExtracting Vessel Centerlines From Retinal Images Using Topographical Properties and Directional Filters
In this paper we consider the problem of blood vessel segmentation in retinal images. After enhancing the retinal image we use green channel of images for segmentation as it provides better discrimination between vessels and background. We consider the negative of retinal green channel image as a topographical surface and extract ridge points on this surface. The points with this property are l...
متن کاملMorphological Exudate Detection in Retinal Images using PCA-based Optic Disc Removal
Diabetic retinopathy lesion detection such as exudate in fundus image of retina can lead to early diagnosis of the disease. Retinal image includes dark areas such as main blood vessels and retinal tissue and also bright areas such as optic disk, optical fibers and lesions e.g. exudate. In this paper, a multistage algorithm for the detection of exudate in foreground is proposed. The algorithm se...
متن کاملThe development and mature organisation of the end-artery retinal vasculature in a marsupial, the dunnart Sminthopsis crassicaudata
The end-artery retinal vasculature of a marsupial, the fat-tailed dunnart, was defined by India ink injection and studied in wholemounts. In the adult, the vitreal vasculature supplying the ganglion-cell layer has major paired-vessels in a horizontal H shape. These vessels skirt the area centralis and visual streak that are supplied by fine end-loops. A second vascular layer of uniformly distri...
متن کاملHow does ROP develop?
In babies who are born preterm (before 37 weeks), the retinal blood vessels are not fully formed and do not reach the ora serrata (Figure 2). If a preterm baby is examined a week or so after birth, it is possible to see whether the blood vessels are mature and have reached the ora serrata, or whether they are immature; i.e., the peripheral retina is not vascularised. If babies receive good neon...
